Architecting Minds for Global Leadership.
My role as a mentor goes beyond standard academic supervision; I see myself as a technical architect for future careers. I train my students in the deep rigors of mathematical modelling, scientific programming, and robust experimental design. My mission is to ensure that every mind I shape is capable of not just publishing at flagship conferences, but of leading high-impact AI teams in industry and academia.
Training in probabilistic topic modelling, data analysis at scale, and the bridge between theoretical equations and production-ready Java/Python codebases.
My alumni are currently shaping the future of AI at Huawei Research, British Telecom, Lloyds Bank, and elite technical universities.
Liao Yi & Sam Lai
I served as the technical advisor for these researchers at CUHK, guiding them through complex mathematical modelling and scientific programming. Today, Liao Yi is a Research Scientist at Huawei's Research Lab, while Sam Lai's work on social network crawling and topic modelling led to flagship publications at SIGIR.
António Correia
António's journey under my co-supervision led him to become the first Portuguese PhD student ever to be awarded the prestigious Microsoft Research PhD Fellowship (2021). His work on hybrid human-AI enabled scientometrics has received multiple best paper awards and international recognition.
Mahsa Abazari Kia & Reyhaneh Hashempour
I mentored Mahsa and Reyhaneh to bridge the gap between AI theory and industrial requirements. Mahsa's models were successfully developed for British Telecom (BT) systems, and she is now a Lecturer in London. Reyhaneh now applies her expertise as a Data Scientist at BT.
Dr. Yogesh Kumar Meena
As my Postdoctoral KTP Associate at the University of Essex, Yogesh worked at the intersection of industry and research. He has now transitioned into an academic leadership role as an Assistant Professor at IIT Gujarat.
Anastasia Tomita & Faizan Khan
Mentored into high-stakes environments: Anastasia now serves as a Graduate Trainee at Lloyds Bank, while Faizan Khan transitioned from our security intelligence KTP to become a Data Scientist at 3 UK.
